Recap: Quiet Life / The Bailey Hounds / Mike Quinn @ Milkboy 12/12
It was Friday, I was done with work, I wanted a beer or two (or ten) and the word on the street was there was a good show going down at Milkboy. I didn’t know much about Quiet Life or The Bailey Hounds but I’ve seen Mike Quinn a few times and he’s got a cool thing going on. So I got on the train and showed up just in time to grab a beer while Mike Quinn was opening up the night.
I’m having a hard time thinking of what to compare Mr. Quinn to… he’s somewhere between Randy Newman and Bob Dylan if that makes any sense. Most of his tunes have an upbeat folk rock feel to them. They’re a little goofy but in a good way. It’s the sort of music that makes me wish I was stoned at a BBQ or cruising through the country with the window down. Checkout his stuff here.
The Bailey Hounds followed with a solid set of Americana / country rock jams. These guys reminded me a little bit of Drive-by Truckers. There’s a lot of southern rock guitar riffing and slightly haunting vocals going down. Overall I thought these guys really killed it.
Quiet Life closed things out and to be honest my judgment may have been compromised by the previously mentioned beers at this point…. but I feel pretty confident in saying that these dudes held it down.
