Flogging Molly | Drunken Lullabies
Today is Saint Patrick’s Day and really all anybody seems to understand about this is wearing green and getting drunk at any time of day is appropriate. Is that enough for a holiday? I’m not sure. There’s no candy, no gifts, and no lights. Maybe if you get drunk enough you’ll chop down a tree and throw it inside your living room but it’s more likely that you will just get hurt and pass out on your front lawn. At least it’s getting warmer so hopefully you won’t freeze to death. Hurray for you. That sounds like cause enough to celebrate a holiday. Cheers!
On behalf of all of us at Empty Bottle Evenings (actually I want you to have a terrible day because I’m stuck at work. The others are making me say this), I want to wish you a happy St Paddy’s Day. We would be remiss if we didn’t make at least one musical recommendation on this day for drunks like ourselves. Personally I tend to listen to three bands each March 17th because I know nothing of the Irish and I’m too shitfaced to remember anyone else. Those three bands are The Pogues, The Dropkick Murphys, and Flogging Molly. Maybe next year I’ll make a point to find someone new but this year I’m limiting my album recommendation to one from the three. And if I was going to rank them..actually, there’s no hypothetical, I’m ranking them right now: Number One is Flogging Molly’s Drunken Lullabies. Numbers 2-20 do not matter. You’re going to pass out surrounded by glasses that will reek and be unimaginably sticky tomorrow morning, with the remnants of food that you don’t remember cooking or ordering covering you, and you will awake with a headache that only boxers (or fellow drunks) could understand. You don’t have all day to try out new music. Just listen to this album and you will be merry. Slainte!
The Drink: Just as I can only remember 3 bands each year I can only remember 3 Irish alcoholic ingredients- Guinness, Jameson Whiskey, and Bailey’s Irish Cream. Drink together as a Car Bomb or separately if you prefer. Weirdo.
