Buke and Gase | Riposte
Initially I was going to write about this album on 4/20. You know the day that everybody that never needed an excuse to smoke pot decided to use as an excuse to smoke pot. I know man…. I don’t get it, I don’t think anyone gets it and yes I have fallen victim to it’s seductive allure before and I probably will again. I’m not trying to hate but come on people we all know you were going to toke the reefer regardless of what day it was, so why the pretense? Just own it.
Anyways, I started writing about this album on 4/20 but then I realized that I was way too lit to piece together anything that was coherent… so I just watched Dances With Wolves and drank a bourbon. Am I proud of it? No. Am I too old to be doing this shit? Maybe. Is Dances With Wolves one of the best moves ever made? Most certainly yes. But back to Buke and Gase. It seemed fitting to write about them on that particular day because they’re a weird band and they’ve got kind of a weird sound, but I dig it. I’m not really sure how to explain what they do, but it involves playing homemade guitars and drums at the same time. Just watch this and you’ll get the idea:
For me, Riposte was one of those albums that I immediately loved right from the first song. It’s weird, it’s unique, it’s strangely infectious. I listened to it at least three times the day I bought it and maybe I’m just old and jaded but I rarely do that anymore. They have a sound that’s so unique it’s hard to draw comparisons. They’re a little folk, a little rock, a little progressive and most impressively they make a lot of noise for a two piece band. Basically, they’re doing something that is totally their own and that’s a rare thing these.
The Drink:
I don’t know, absinth or something weird like that.
